More About the GSM
We are referred to as a Militia under the GA Code (see Documents>GA Code). Under the GA Constitution and Laws, all males from 17 to 45 are automatically part of the unorganized militia and GA Counties are separated into Militia Districts. Our group is comprised of concerned citizens from all walks of life that want to see our State, Country, and Constitution preserved as well as life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness and peace. We have joined together in ranks called platoons and answer to the Governor of Georgia through the Director of GEMA (see Documents>Governor's Letter). We are above board and operate well within the law at all times.
We are not the only Militia group in GA, but we feel that we are the only ones that have availed ourselves to the Governor through the Director of GEMA. Our contact with the Governor is through GEMA which is in charge of State Homeland Security. While many have trouble with the term "militia", think of us as an extension or "auxillary" to GEMA.
What we do:
All recruits are asked to fill out the recruit form on the home page and a quick background check is done to insure that violent felons, child molesters, and any others that are a danger to our family oriented group are not accepted. A platoon leader then will set up an initial interview to answer any questions that recruits may have and to fully explain who we are and are not. Once satisfied that recruit has good intentions and all is okay, an invitation to attend one of the monthly meetings (called PTX or Platoon Training Exercise) to learn the necessary skills to prepare, survive, and defend our State and Country. The skills required are widely varied and there is a place for everyone interested. Registration to our forum where ideas and information is share is also made available.
Some initial Steps:
All personnel are trained and qualified on the rifle of their choice. While we are not a primarily "run-n-gun" group, there may come a time when everyone may be required by the Governor to take up arms in order to defend our State and Country. Some of the more qualified and interested personnel will choose to continue to train heavily in this area, but it is a very small percentage. Our primary peacetime focus is on communication, medical, preparation/survival skills, rescue, and assistance to our local law enforcement and emergency management agencies. We train to assist in a wide variety of natural and man-made disasters.
In communications we will need radio operators to maintain communications across GA and the Nation as well as message deliverers and runners to cover the areas surrounding the local communication hubs. A ham or amateur radio license is very helpful during the peacetime operations in this field.
Medical personnel are needed to aid the injured in any disaster. First Responders, CERT, EMTs, Paramedics, Nurses, and Doctors are all needed in this duty.
Other personnel to provide support, crowd and traffic control, preparation needs, survival skills where needed, and assistance to local law enforcement or EMA's round out some of the skills that are required. Most everyone can find an area in which they can excel in order to help within our group.
Problems and trends:
Many that contact our group do so out of reaction to current events. These recruits tend to never come to training or group meetings nor answer emails and roll calls. If you are in fact interested in making a difference, we ask for your participation and commitment. You most likely have skill sets that are greatly needed and can help others prepare for disastrous times.
Support sites:
We do maintain other sites as well as this one. If you join, you will be invited to join our forum where monthly info is posted as well as discussions on various topics as well as a chat room. There are many sites that we can refer to you that will help you gain knowledge that can always be of help. If this type of group is of interest to you, please consider joining us today.
